Broken Braces? Keep Your Cool

Posted .

Braces are expensive, and one thing you don’t want to do is to wear them any longer than you have to. To make sure that you your braces stay in good shape, you should brush and floss after 30 minutes after every meal and snack. And you should avoid hard, tough and sticky foods that can damage them. But from time to time, you may have a problem. When that happens, take a deep breath, relax and call our dentist, Dr. Preethy Jacob Kunthara for an appointment.

If you break a wire or one comes lose, try pushing it gently back into place with a pencil eraser. If it is still bothering you, cover it with dental wax. You might be able to trim it, but call our office first to make sure that you trim it correctly and to avoid inhaling or swallowing the cut piece of wire. If a bracket comes loose, cover it with dental wax until we can see you. If a band should come off, don’t try to reattach it. Save it and bring it with you to the office. You might lose a spacer now and then. That isn’t a big deal. It probably just means that it is time to have a new band placed. You should call our office whenever you have a problem with any part of your braces. We may want to see you right away, or you may be able to wait until your next regular appointment.

If you are having problems with your braces, or if you are thinking about getting them for yourself or your child, we would be happy to see you at Simon Dental Care. Call 480-833-0880 today to plan your appointment.
