Keeping Gum Disease at Bay

Posted .

Gum disease is very dangerous. In fact, it’s one of the most destructive dental issues there is, in part because it can impact your overall health. Gum disease can infect and harm your gums as well as deteriorate the underlying bone, which can lead to loose and lost teeth. It’s best to prevent this disease before it starts. To help fight gum disease, our dentist, Dr. Preethy Jacob Kunthara, is happy to give you some helpful tips.

-Keep up on oral hygiene: This is important because it removes the plaque from the teeth and gums regularly, which is necessary for preventing gum disease. So, make sure to brush twice a day, floss once a day and rinse daily. As you do these things, it’s best to use an ADA approved toothpaste and an antibacterial mouthwash.

-Attend your checkups: Your checkups are the key to preventing gum disease. This is because your oral hygiene routine can’t always remove the plaque from your smile. But, a dental cleaning can. When the plaque hardens and turns into tartar, only our cleaning techniques can remove it. So, make sure to keep up with your checkups every six months.
